Description

This resource features a collection of thinkSRSD-inspired POWeR (Plan, Organize, Write, Revise) cycles designed specifically for Grade 3 writers. Each cycle supports students in becoming strategic writers through explicit instruction in key strategies, with built-in opportunities to connect writing instruction to Grade 3 content areas.

Note: Some iPhone users have reported that when they click on the buttons below to access the documents, the Google Drive folder they are taken to is empty. Unfortunately, this is a technical issue beyond our control. As a work-around, we recommend accessing the documents from a different device.

  1. I implemented the power cycle provided on Regions and Jobs today and it was a big hit! Student comments included “I want to visit Port Colbourne to eat the peaches off the trees,” and “I think I would like to work in natural resource tourism in Moosenee,” and “YES (fist pump) I was hoping we would get to write about this (regions and jobs),” and a chorus of YAYS when I said we were going to make a GIST and then write about this topic! The vocabulary and background preload made this lesson accessible which is in part why they loved it! I might be biased so I’ll let the students rate the lesson – they gave it 5 starts!

  2. This resource is absolutely fantastic! It seamlessly integrates knowledge-building, vocabulary development, sentence and paragraph writing, mentor texts, complimentary texts, reading responses, and cross-curricular connections within literacy, etc. I can’t imagine the amount of time it took to create this resource—thank you! Our Learning and Teaching team is hopeful that similar resources will be released for other grades—and in French as well. 🙂 We truly appreciate it!
