Engage Grade 3 students with the vibrant story of Alma Thomas, an artist who followed her dreams and created joyful, colourful works while showing integrity and perseverance. This Releasing-Writers-inspired unit helps students practise GIST statements, use the Do/What strategy, and build complex sentences with the subordinating conjunction whatever. Use this unit in connection with Visual Arts and have students work to create their own vibrant, patterned artwork inspired by Alma Thomas, exploring colour, shape, and repetition in their designs.
