In this PaTTAN Literacy Symposium learning module, Judi Dodson explains oral language’s role in reading comprehension. She examines language development and its impact on reading comprehension and provides meaningful and practical activities that can be easily implemented in the classroom. A printout of the slides is included for future reference.

This learning module supports the teaching of oral language and explicit vocabulary instruction and their connection to reading comprehension by providing background knowledge and explaining specific activities.

  1. The ‘science of talk’. So important. Oral language skills still need to be taught, especially as many students don’t come to school with the oral language skills they need to develop reading comprehension. Many practical strategies provided in this webinar that are extremely important in every classroom each day.
