Writing and Reading Connections: Bridging Research and Practice

By Zoi A. Philippakos & Steve Graham Last updated 2024/08/21

Description

The chapters in this anthology, by a range of expert authors, delve into the relationship between writing and reading (as well as oral language), offering both extensive research and ideas for practice. While the research can be a bit heavy at times (this is not a “quick tips to use tomorrow” kind of book), there are many gems for classroom instruction throughout, e.g., regarding vocabulary instruction, structured oral discourse leading to writing assignments, the use of Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD), and integrating writing into content areas such as social studies, science and math.  Additional chapters are included on emergent bilingual learners,  struggling students, digital learning, and even writing and reading connections at the college level.
