Next Steps Book Study

After a universal screening assessment, how can K-6 educators translate the results into evidence-based instruction, targeted interventions, and improved reading outcomes?

Join Nellie Caruso in these bi-weekly sessions to dig deeper into Susan Smartt and Deborah Glaser’s Next STEPS in Literacy Instruction: Connecting Assessment to Effective Interventions.

Together, we will explore each chapter, building around the big five ideas of phoneme awareness, phonics, fluency, reading comprehension, and vocabulary. After a brief introduction to each concept, we will explore assessment options, and strategies for connecting assessment findings to lesson planning. We will discuss tactics, scenarios and planning with educators from across the province, learn how to take action after assessments, and make data-driven decisions to support reading growth for all of our students.

Come prepared to collaborate with other educators in these interactive, discussion-based meetings and to share your insights on the chapter and discuss classroom applications. The ebook version of Next STEPS is available in the Ontario College of Teachers Member’s Library or for purchase through Caversham Booksellers or Brookes Publishing. (Please note we are not affiliated with any publishing companies.)

These sessions will not be recorded. Be there to ensure you don’t miss out!
