Description

This is an engaging, fun storybook including five decodable stories which teach the five vowels, consonants, two digraphs and a few non-phonetic words. It is based on a structured literacy approach, and a note to caregivers at the front of the text explains how they can create flashcards to help new readers learn the vowels and consonants/digraphs and non-phonetic words, and learn how to blend sounds to read. The characters in the stories are colourful and amusing, and children love their antics.

Caregivers and teachers are given an explanation at the beginning of the text to create a flashcard deck to teach the sounds (code) presented in the text, as well as directions to teach the non-phonetic words included in the stories. Finally, directions are given to teach blending of sounds to emerging readers to enable them to read words.
