In this webinar, Nancy Hennessy, Nancy Eberhardt and Sheryl Ferlito unpack syntax instruction. This webinar provides a high-level overview of best practices for syntax instruction. Hennessy and Eberhardt highlight a “function-first” approach that is aligned with the Ontario curriculum – instead of naming and identifying parts of speech, effective syntax instruction involves explicitly teaching students the function of these words in language.

Great information and ideas this session- even if you don’t purchase the Sortegories program. Syntax and grammar are not synonymous with each other, but there are many common denominators that you will learn about.
There are excellent read alouds, and other resources that can be used here- I personally suggest levelled readers!
I don’t know enough of the research into the use of technology to know if this is an efficacious program, but it certainly confirms my biases towards grammar and syntax instruction.
Great scaffolds!
