Description

This PaTTAN webinar focuses on Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD), an evidence-based framework for teaching strategies for reading and writing. Research indicates that SRSD is an incredibly effective approach to teaching writing. SRSD is a structured yet flexible approach that has been proven effective for students of all ages, from Kindergarten to university level.

A padlet with resources is also available.

Curriculum Connection / Connexion au programme-cadre

SRSD is a broad instructional framework that will allow Ontario educators to address multiple curriculum expectations. In writing, an SRSD approach supports students to "plan, develop ideas, gather information, and organize content for creating texts of various forms" (D1) and "create, revise, edit, and proofread their own texts" (D2). In reading, SRSD instruction helps students "apply comprehension strategies before, during, and after reading" (C2).

  1. SRSD is definitely something to look into. My question or concern is with consistency across classes and grades. It would be great if we can begin using graphic organizers, language, etc in the early grades and build on it as kids progress through the grades.

  2. I was very pleased to see that you included SRSD on your site! This is a resource I had not yet seen. I will certainly be using this, and others, with Faculty of Education Language candidates!
    Much appreciated,
